Expected Learning Outcome: This course will provide attendees with (1) an understanding of basic engineering ethics theories and principles as well as (2) an opportunity to apply those theories and principles to actual real-life case studies in order to give practical meaning to engineering ethics.  The content of the seminar will focus on engineering ethics and also related professional practice  (licensure, legal liability, contracts, risk management, etc.) issue impacting individuals involved in the design and construction process  It will include a  presentation and discussion on the ethical obligations owed by an engineer to the public, to employer/client and to other professionals in such areas as the protection of the public health and safety, duty of confidentiality, intellectual property, environmental considerations and many other issues.

Resume: Arthur Schwartz is the deputy executive director and general counsel of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). Schwartz writes both an ethics column and a legal column in NSPE's monthly publication, PEmagazine, and a professional practice column for Structural Engineering & Design magazine. He has written extensively for various professional journals on matters involving ethics, professional liability, contracts, and engineering licensing and has participated as a guest lecturer at many colleges and universities, federal and state agencies, and national professional association conventions.
